We laid our sweet dog Vito to rest on December 24, 2022. Vito was a retired military dog that came into our care at 6 years old. He had a whole life before us as a bomb dog with the Army, and the life we gave him in his retirement was a wonderful one.

In our care, Vito went on daily hikes, ate his fill of chicken and hard boiled eggs, and played frisbee in the yard, but most of all, Vito loved to swim. He was such a powerful, strong swimmer, launching his body into the water from the shore. He had such strength and focus, it was easy to see why he was such a great military dog. His sweet demeanor and loyalty was so pure. We loved him so much, he truly did change our lives for the better.

As he grew older, he continued to go on daily hikes but eventually lost his passion for the water. As we neared the end, we could see that our strong boy was becoming a shell of what he used to be. He would have his good days, but eventually, more and more the days were tough ones. The hardest decision to make is when to finally say, “it’s time.” The day that 4 Paws came to the house, Vito had a good day and we were so thankful to say goodby on a good day. Now, it’s time for him to rest. – Rest easy sweet boy.
